Disabled Doctors, a CBC discussion with Dr. Brian Goldman.

Daniel Heffner is a medical student who struggles with a severe reading disability. He wrote an essay titled Unreadable in the most recent issue of the Canadian Medical Association Journal describing the trials and tribulations he has had to overcome to reach this point in his life. It has opened the door for many to discuss about disability in the medical profession.

I see the power of what we as physicians can accomplish for our patients when we advocate for them, the same way those who advocated for me made such a positive impact on my life. What once seemed like such a burden now serves as my greatest asset in being compassionate towards my patients. It makes me human.
