Why Not Zoidberg? by Chris Carlson.
The good doctor hailing from Decapod 10 gets a moment in the limelight in this amazing anamorphic chalk art. While his lack of understanding of human anatomy has made his Terran patients uneasy since working as the staff doctor at the Planet Express, his confidence in his own abilities is at least…admirable. Stay awesome, Dr. Zoidberg.
Who is Your Favourite “Doctor for Pretend?”
Let’s face it: we love our medical dramas. There’s just something unique and interesting about them. Forget the fact that the medicine and science is sometimes poorly done, we just cannot get enough of them. Of course there are also doctors beyond medical dramas. And that gives us a lot of options.
In recent times my favourite doctor is probably Dr. James Wilson from House. Portrayed by Robert Sean Leonard, I could really relate to his final season story arc. My favourite cartoon doctor is still Dr. Zoidberg.
So who is your favourite on-screen, “doctor for pretend?” Leave your answers below.
Howser.
I am a big Neil Patrick Harris fan. His portrayal of Douglas ‘Doogie’ Howser has been satirized, parodied, and brought to life in more ways than just television; having life imitate art is just icing on the cake. Here is my interpretation of a serialized comic starring ‘Doogie,’ the Howser.
The show had no cash. The show was over. But did Zoidberg worry?
Futurama is one of my favourite shows and tonight there will be a new episode! Thirteen episodes total are airing weekly through the summer. This has me extremely excited. The 31st century life has returned from the brink. Or as Dr. Zoidberg would say, “Hooray!”
Last Hurrah.
Making one final appearance, House has embarked on a grand adventure spanning 177 hours of screen time. Here is to the crazy times, the successes, and the failures. Here is to the memorable cast members both past and present. Here is to the world we are presented, in which this enigmatic creature and the people who surround him work, live, and breathe. Here is to the memory of one of my inspirations 8 years running.
Sincerely,
Tom of the Medical State of Mind
The End.
Everything comes to an end. For Gregory House, that end comes next Monday. After following House and his antics through eight seasons, seeing this show draw to a close is bittersweet. Regardless of how formulaic the show eventually became, it had run a long and healthy course and introduced viewers to the world of a flawed and human doctor.
To a show that had its own part to play in inspiring my pursuit for medicine, thanks for the memories. I wish the actors and staff of the show the very best as they move on to new adventures and new endeavours.
The cat is out of the bag. There is no hiding it now. House is coming to a close. Facing some fierce competition from other up and coming shows, the show’s creators have decided it is time to put the series to rest by this April.
I have watched every single episode of House since it came out. It is going to be sad to see it go. While I feel that the show’s quality and story arcs have declined over the seasons, it has been a nice little distraction from studying. In a time where my attention seems to get shorter and shorter through the piecemeal delivery of YouTube content and the like, to watch and follow something over a long and dedicated stretch was a welcome change of pace every week.
I wonder how they will end the show since the whole series felt like it was building up to something with Lisa Edelstein’s Lisa Cuddy. Now that that ship has sailed, I feel that the finale has a lot to live up to to deliver a satisfying conclusion. Thoughts?
That’s a tough one. I think that so far, my favourite is the season six finale, Help Me that aired May 17th, 2010. Overall the episode was very different from many of the cookie cutter plots of the series, focusing a lot on House wrestling with his personal demons and coming to terms with his disability. I think the episode worked on a very personal level exploring a very vulnerable House. It is also one of the few occasions where House is powerless to help his patient despite his best efforts. It all makes for unique drama.
On the technical note, the episode also looked quite different from others, based on their use of a new DSLR camera with a shallow depth of field, making it look visually interesting as well.
As it turns out I have not. I slowly weaned off of television a few years ago and rarely watch anything besides occasionally checking the news or some big sporting event. The only medical show I have followed is House, MD. That is something I am considering giving up as well considering the last few episodes and the finale were poorly executed.
